1-1 COACHING.
This outlines the process I use with my 1-1 Coaching clients. As this work is highly personalised, this is crafted to suit your needs and desires. If you have any questions, feel free to book in a call with me here.
OUTCOMES
During the first stage, we’ll explore what you really want to get out of this time together. We’ll spend time to quantify the outcomes that matter so you have something tangible to work towards.
Tanya had a level of social anxiety that had her terrified to walk into a Yoga studio and introduce herself to others, but she wanted to teach Yoga! She worked with me for three months, and within six months she was teaching classes at her local studio and holding breath work sessions on the beach. She also had walked away from a marriage which she’d been wanting to leave for years.
WHAT’S WORKING
It’s likely been years since you’ve truly celebrated yourself and just how far you’ve come. This stage is important as it re-establishes connection to your inner power, the driving force behind everything you do. It highlights what has been forgotten about or downplayed, putting you into an empowered state. You’ll see yourself in a whole new light, transforming self-doubt into self-esteem so you can begin this new chapter with strength.
Bernard had seen his brown skin as a detrimental factor in his life. He was highly successful and celebrated his achievements momentarily before falling back to feeling like he wasn’t good enough and coping in ways that made him feel like shit. Within three months of working together he saw that his mixed race was one of his super powers was able to own his ethnicity, celebrating himself and loving the skin he was in.
WHAT’S NOT WORKING
You’re probably already aware of what’s not working, but we’ll explore this together so I can understand exactly what’s troubling you. As we explore this, your outcomes may be fine tuned, as most people become more clear about what they want once they explore what they don’t want.
Jeremy had been working as a gardener for a couple of years, and was unhappy with the schedule and rates of pay. He thought he wanted to become a coach. We worked together for three months and within six months he had started his own gardening business because he realised he loved being outdoors. He more than doubled his income within the first year.
COPING STRATEGIES
Right now, your life is being held up by any number of coping strategies. A coping strategy is something that you typically enjoy doing, yet it also comes at a cost. Smoking, vaping, drinking or taking drugs excessively, binge eating, doom scrolling, overworking… These are just some of the common coping strategies people use throughout their life. Here, we’ll explore the benefits, as well as the part of your life you’ve been avoiding and/or not paying attention to. You’ll alleviate any guilt or shame you’ve been consciously or unconsciously holding onto as a result, transform the way you think about this coping strategy, and step into an empowered state to change this behaviour once and for all.
Karen (name changed for privacy reasons) had become incredibly successful by her early 30s, already owning her own home, a luxury car, and held a prestigious sales job. She was spending easily over $1000 per week on champagne and cocaine and she felt guilty every single time. She had tried to change her ways for years, but was unsuccessful. Within months of working together, she felt empowered to change her behaviour, and started to find it easy to say no because she had so much more to enjoy in her life. She still enjoyed lunches, parties and nights out on occasion, but she was now in control of how often and how much she consumed and no longer felt guilty for doing it. During our time together she also left a toxic relationship, started a business doing what she really loved, and got back into dancing. She reported her mind never being more clear, and feeling happier than she had been in her entire life.
INNER EXPLORATION
This stage is about exploring what’s been laying dormant for years. It involves slowing down, and you’ll experience a level of rest and relaxation that you’ve been quietly craving for years, but never been able to find. You’ll be guided and well supported through this process. Your thoughts will slow down. Your mind will find more peace. You will start to awaken to what truly matters to you.
Andrew had a high performer for his entire life. He retired before he hit 60 and whilst he enjoyed the freedom for a few years, he felt lost and without a purpose. He always had to be doing something and had lost his real self many years ago when he was forced to grow up at the age of 7 after a major family trauma. Andrew created space and time to go inward every single day and absolutely loved how it made him feel. He spent the next 18 months finding himself, coming to peace with the life that he had lived, reconnected to himself and found that he no longer wanted to live in a major city, he wanted to live by the ocean! He sold his house, got rid of anything he no longer wanted, and moved. He now swims every day and absolutely loves his new life. He’s spending more time going inward and learning about himself and what truly matters.
DESIRES/IDEAS
Now that you’re at a space of ease and you have clarity on what matters, you will start to navigate through your desires and/or ideas pertaining to this topic.
Andrew had a desire to move closer to the ocean, but with thousands of oceans in the world, he had plenty to choose from. He spent time narrowing down his ultimate location until he found the place that felt most exciting. We still speak on occasion and he is loving retired life in a place that truly feels like home.
PLAY
Once the desires and ideas are formed, it’s time to play in them. Perhaps it’s a business idea, or a creative pursuit. Maybe it’s simply an old past-time that you feel excited to explore again. In this stage, you’re not setting goals. You simply doing things for the pure joy of doing them. You’re playing without needing a specific outcome. This could look like creating art for art’s sake, writing whatever feels good to write about, or even getting to work on projects at home that you actually enjoy doing.
During my own journey, I had become hyper-focused on getting results, to the point that I had lost the joy in what I was doing. The process was mechanical as I had placed the outcome as being more important than the journey itself. My journey involved letting go of trying to achieve a specific outcome for a while, and just doing things in a way that felt good. This allowed me to get out of my own head, and into a good feeling space where true creativity emerged. It’s something I still use to this day.
REFLECTION
Once you’re in the play stage, you’ll start to notice some recurring themes. What makes you feel most alive? What could you do for hours without forcing yourself to work at it? What do you have to motivate yourself to do? What things are you doing that you used to enjoy doing, but now feel like a chore? What do you wake up thinking about? This reflection stage serves as the fine tuning. Think of the INNER EXPLORATION stage as finding the right radio station, but noticing still a little static. The PLAY and REFLECTION stages are where you move the dial in your own life, adjusting the signal until it becomes crystal clear. The moment this becomes crystal clear is the moment you stop questioning “Is This It?” You start knowing, with a full, deeply embodied knowing, “This Is It.”
I’ve personally experienced this in not one but two areas of my life. I’ve explored multiple areas of coaching: fitness, mindset, dating, spirituality and purpose/career. I’ve enjoyed all of them, but this one makes me feel most alive. I stopped depending on other people’s strategies and created my own. I found what felt most exciting and started doing that. I did the same with electronic music, after spending years playing whatever music the room needed me to play. I could play it all, but I noticed which music truly made me feel alive: house music with real world instruments like guitars and sax and piano, vocals and balearic percussion, along with a healthy selection of classics and remixed house anthems, too. The result is not one but two ‘careers’ that I’m madly in love with and excited to explore each and every day.
EXECUTION
Now you get to work. You’ve got the idea, the passion, the excitement. You’ve got something that you love more than anything else in the world. Your life is now being driven forward by an internal expression of who you are. Goals are set here because you’re now in alignment with who you are and what you love.
RESULTS
People who have worked with me in the past experience mental clarity within weeks, and find direction within just a couple of months. They develop courage to let go of what is no longer in alignment, and the confidence to pursue what they truly desire. Their mental health improves, and their coping mechanisms start to fall away naturally. They find a real reason to live, an excitement to wake up every day, and find a level of passion and purpose that they had when they were a child.
The kind of results people get and the amount of time this takes varies from person to person. Every client I’ve had the pleasure of working with has seen their life continually improve long after we stop working together. The philosophies, wisdom and methodologies learned and implemented remain as a strong sturdy foundation for their life. The basic principle behind this work together is building a life that’s based on happiness through who you are being and what you’re doing, not just on what you earn. Yes, you also get to reap the benefits and success that comes from ‘working hard’ on what you love. But you’ll no longer feel like you’re sacrificing yourself in the process.
