Why You Dread Mondays (And What It's Really About)

That Sunday-night dread is feedback, not random anxiety, and it’s a sign your life's out of alignment. Here's the first step to change it.

If there's a part of you that doesn't want to go to work tomorrow…

Take notice.

Your mind is literally giving you real-time feedback about what you're doing with your life.

And that is your inner voice speaking to you, guiding you away from what you don't want to do anymore.

Your current work has served, and still does serve, a purpose.

It is useful.

But it's not your highest calling.

And your mind will not shut up until you actually listen to what this inner voice is saying to you.

THE INNER VOICE

This inner voice is the voice of your soul.

And your soul knows exactly who you are, and exactly what you're meant to be doing in life.

It sees your greatness, your potential, your deepest desires…

And every time you do something that goes against that, you feel it.

  • That's the Sunday dread.

  • That's the desire to have another day off.

  • That's the desire to retire, or even retire early.

It's your soul saying… "Hey, this thing you're doing… it's not it."

It's a whisper, not a command.

It's relentless in its pursuit to get you to pay attention to what you're ignoring.

And it shows up in the quietness, which is what most people spend their life trying to avoid, and then wonder why their head is a mess.

YOUR PURPOSE

Maybe you already know what you want to do, but aren't doing it out of fear of losing what you already have, or doubt whether you can make it work.

Maybe you have zero idea of what you actually want to do.

Either way, some time for you without a phone, a coffee, a drink in hand, a vape, another Netflix series, a joint, a cigarette…

Essentially, some time for you without anything to do, will serve you greatly.

That can be scary at first.

But it's also the pathway to ending the restlessness, the dread, the unhappiness that you bury under things like more work, a new project, more alcohol, another empty one-night stand, or yet another adventure.

Yes, to experiencing all these things.

But these are nothing but coping mechanisms unless you're feeling genuinely excited about waking up on Monday morning.

You just can't cope well enough to stifle the inner voice that's trying to get you to pay attention, the voice that's leading you towards what you actually want to do with your life.

So, what is it?

Another week of this?

Another month?

Another year or more?

Or is today the day that you sit down with a notepad and pen and write down how you actually feel?

Is today the day you write down your fears and doubts, as well as the ideas you've had that you're yet to take action towards?

THE FIRST STEP

This isn't about figuring it all out today.

You're just looking for the first step.

A single action.

You'll know what this is, because you'll feel genuine excitement to do it, even if it's hard.

That's all you need.

One step.

Do that, whatever that is for you.

Then repeat the process: stillness, enquiry, single step.

It's leading you towards a level of satisfaction, purpose, happiness and peace that you simply cannot buy.

Yes, it's true, things like drugs and alcohol can help you create these feelings, but they only offer temporary glimpses, which is why so many people feel dependent on them to cope with life.

You'll continue to cope, and the internal battle will continue until you pay attention.

Only you can decide how much longer you'll continue to show up at a job that you don't really want to be doing, all whilst your deepest dreams and desires are ignored, and are one step closer to one day being buried along with you.

You get to choose.
